Three new metro stations open their doors to public: Nikaia – Syntagma in 14 minutes

Athens metro Line 3 now has 24 stations, which will rise to 27 in 2022 with the addition of three more stations, at Maniatika, Piraeus and the Piraeus Municipal Theatre./ANA-MPA/Pygmalion Karatzas




The three new metro stations Aghia Varvara, Korydallos and Nikea on line 3 opened to the public on Tuesday at 05:30.

The distance Nikea-Syntagma will be covered in 14 minutes and from Nikea to the airport in 55 minutes. The service frequency between 07:30 until 17:30 will be 8 minutes.

The new stations, apart from facilitating the citizens’ transport is expected to significantly change the traffic in the area.

As Athens Public Transport Organisation (OASA) CEO Nikos Athanassopoulos said to Athens-Macedonian News Agency, “the transfer with Athens public means of transport to and from western Attica will become faster and easier with the delivery of the three new metro stations and the radical reorganisation of the bus routes. The new stations will serve over 60,000 citizens every day, a figure that will further increase in 2022 when the full extension of the line will be completed.
