Referring to the opening to tourism and the tourist arrivals, government spokesperson Stelios Petsas on Wednesday said that “we should compare with zero and not with the over 30 million tourists we had last year” in an interview with MEGA TV.

“We start from point zero and we will move carefully until July 15,” he underlined and expressed the hope that the restrictions will be lifted and not become more suffocating.

“Οf course there will be coronavirus incidents but we must be careful and prevent a spread. We are ready.”

Asked on the possibility of a government reshuffle, he reiterated that there is no such issue. This is the Prime Minister’s privilege, when he decides.”

On the issue of Hagia Sophia, he quoted Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos underlining that it would be a huge mistake for Turkey to proceed to this move. “It would create a huge spiritual gap, probably unbridged, between the Christians and the Turkish authorities because Hagia Sophia is a world cultural heritage monument whose historicity should be protected,” he underlined.

He clarified that such issues were not discussed in Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan but only issues concerning the pandemic and the restart of tourism.
