The events that took place at the borders of Greece and Turkey in Evros earlier in the year, with Turkey using refugees to carry out its politics, “must not be allowed to happen again,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday.
Responding to a question by a Greens MP, Merkel said that the EU needs a cohesive strategy in its relations with Turkey, which must on the other hand also be criticized for its human rights record and for the additional fact that it is drilling off Greece and Cyprus.
Talks among involved parties must restart, she said, with the involvement of France as well.
