Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragogiannis stressed the importance of adapting to the post-coronavirus era and exploring new opportunities, while speaking at the Hellenic German Virtual Business Forum, which was co-organized by the Offices for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Greek Embassy in Berlin and the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The pandemic was a wake-up call and a shock to all of us,” Fragogiannis said, noting that “promoting investment is the government’s dominant choice to reverse the economic impact of social distancing on the market.”

“We need to seize this opportunity to stop old habits and build a cyclical, sustainable and resilient economy,” he said.

Referring to the importance of digital services and e-commerce, he explained that Greece intends to take full advantage of this opportunity to support the digital transition of Greek trade in goods and services. “Significant opportunities will be available here for innovative companies operating in related industries,” Fragogiannis added.

Fragogiannis praised the “excellent relations between Greece and Germany,” highlighting the economic data of this relationship: “Greece exported 2.3 billion euros of goods and services to Germany in 2019 and imported 6.1 billion euros of goods and services. Germany is the number one source of domestic direct foreign investment to Greece, with 6.9 billion euros in 2018. In addition, Greece is the most popular destination for German tourists with 4 million arrivals in 2019.”
