The protests in the United States over the death of George Floyd “are a wake-up call from history,” SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said in a social media post on Monday.

“It serves as an abrupt reminder to those who believe that the collective future lies in perpetuating social inequalities, racial hate, bigotry and conservatism,” the main opposition leader said. The black community in the US, he added, is now “the global representative of the need for progressive and radical changes – for  a just society, without discrimination, in which citizens feel secure in their future.”

Tsipras underlined that “collective progress is an affair of the many, collective regression is always the choice of the few.”
