In the following days EU and the state-members must agree on two issues: The funding of recovery from the crisis provoked by the pandemic based on the European Commission’s proposal and a new agreement on the migration.

European Commission vice president for the promotion of the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas in an interview with Cyprus’ newspaper “Politis tis Kyriakis” referred to the main principles of the new Agreement for Migration and Asylum which will be presented by the European Commission in the next weeks.

“The first reception countries can’t indefinitely bear all the burden in the name of the others. We need a permanent European solidarity system. The negotiation will be very difficult but I want to believe that we will make it. Europe does not have the luxury to fail for a second time in a so crucial matter” he noted.

Schinas said that the new agreement will be based on three pillars.

– Agreements with the countries of origin and transit that will create opportunities for the refugees to stay
-A common and strong management of the external borders and
-The fair allocation of the burden among all the EU state members.
