The Greek Foreign Ministry welcomes Egypt’s new initiative to resolve the “Libyan Gordian knot” and underlines Greece’s intention to contribute in any way to the peace procedure.

According to an announcement on Sunday, this initiative “highlights the main principles of the international community as provided in UN’s Safety Council’s decisions and in the Berlin agreement, namely, the respect of unity, integration and Libya’s independence”.

“We fully share its top priorities as the immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of all the foreign forces and their mercenaries, the disarmament of militias and the restoration of all the Libyan coordinates in aν inclusive dialogue procedure for a comprehensive political solution”.
The Foreign Ministry underlines that the restoration of peace may be achieved only by the Libyans themselves adding that “while the extension of the crisis facilitates the third parts that, with ulterior motives, intervene to its internal affairs, the peace will benefit not only the Libyans but also the stability and prosperity of the Eastern Mediterranean”.

“Greece, a direct neighbouring country, with consistency and stability remains totally focused on the efforts for a peace solution of the Libyan crisis and states its disposition and intention to continue to contribute to the peace procedure, something that is already doing with its participation in IRINI mission” concluded the announcement.
