Greece takes all measures to protect travellers and citizens, Hardalias says

Greece remains a safe country and is taking all the necessary measures to protect the travellers and the citizens from the coronavirus, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said on Monday from the airport of Kavala.

Hardalias, as part of his tour to the Greek regional airports that will open to international flights from July 1, met with the management of the airport and the involved health and administration agencies in the presence of regional governor of eastern Macedonia and Thrace Christos Metios, in order to finalise and coordinate a series of technical matters.

The first travellers will arrive at the airport on Thursday, July 2 from Poland and Germany with final destination the island of Thassos and other areas of eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

The minister clarified at 60 targetted coranavirus tests will be held daily with option this number to increase depending on the number of flights and the volume of the passengers. The results will be ready in 24 to 36 hours.

Regarding the random blood tests, he said that health teams will know upon arrival the passengers that will undergo blood tests according to the form they would have submitted before their trip to Greece, where they come from and which is their final destination. Every passenger will receive a code number and according to the readings and through a series of criteria will be selected those passsengers that should undergo a blood test. Until the test results, the visitor will remain in quarantine. The rest of the passengers will continue their trip normally to their final destination.

Hardalias was asked on the condition in Xanthi and the restriction measures applied at the mountainous areas of the region of Myki. He said that a meeting will be held on Monday evening to re-evaluate the measures in Echinos village.

“We are concerned over the condition in Xanthi and the area is troubling us,” he said adding that “the residents are making a huge effort and this is something I must recognise and admit. I do not know if we have reached the end of the tunnel yet, this lays to the epidemiologists to decide. In any case, we will not allow any outbreak, spread or virus multiplying in the wider region. Our decisions are always with respect to the every day life of our compatriots and their programme.”
