SYRIZA’s Charitsis: Gov’t should immediately support public health system

Main opposition SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis on Monday noted that individual responsibility was important but not as important as the government’s collective responsibility to immediately support the public health system, in an interview with Alpha TV.
Charitsis said that Greek society was making a significant effort against this unprecedented situtaion, adding that the majority of citizens have complied with the measures proposed by the scientists and this should be acknowledged.
He pointed out that SYRIZA has from the beginning stated its willingness to support any measures imposed for the protection of public health. “Cooperation between SYRIZA’s former ministers and the current minister responsible for the health, Vasilis Kikilias, is underway,” he said.
The main opposition spokesperson pointed out the delays in the support of the public health system, however, adding that “the goverment should proceed immediately with the hiring of medical staff and reinforcement of ICUs”.
Charitsis called on the political system and society “to discuss the strengthening of the national health system as soon as the crisis is over,” adding that “more and more agree that the public health system should be made stronger”.
