Greek budget showed a primary surplus of 5.5 billion euros in 2018, BoG report says

The Greek state budget showed a primary surplus of 5.5 billion euros, on a cash basis, in 2019, up from a primary surplus of 1.5 billion euros in 2018, the Bank of Greece said on Friday.

The central bank said that the central government’s cash result showed a deficit of 477 million euros in 2019, from a shortfall of 4.180 billion in 2018. During this period, regular budget revenue totaled 51.199 billion euros, up from 50.792 billion in 2018, while regular budget spending fell to 51.551 billion euros from 52.237 billion euros, respectively.

Spending on interest rose to 6.0 billion euros in 2019 from 5.8 billion in 2018, while the Public Investment Programme’s deficit shrank to 2.8 billion euros in 2019 from 3.6 billion euros in 2018.
