The Greek Freak is going to be on the big screen. Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, is developing a live-action feature film about the early life and career of Giannis Antentokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Antenkokounmpo was named the NBA’s most valuable player for 2019 in June.
According to Deadline, a Hollywood inside trade publication and two other trade publications, Disney will be working with producer Bernie Goldman of Village Roadshow Pictures. Goldman also produced “300,” the 2006 movie about Leonidas and the Spartans, starring Gerard Butler.
The film, with the tentative title, “Greek Freak,” is likely to focus on how Antenkokounmpo, the son of Nigerian immigrants, grew up in Athens and started playing in the Greek basketball league, before moving on to the NBA and Milwaukee Bucks during the 2016/2017 basketball season.
Disney+ is a subscription video-on-demand service, which is expected to launch by mid-November.
