The battle to improve citizens’ health by reducing smoking was the subject of a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias and Deputy Health Minister Vassilis Kontozamanis.

During the meeting, the actions to be taken now and in the medium-term for the reduction of smoking, to which the prime minister has given great priority, were discussed.

  • Based on the latest research, public opinion is readier than ever before to accept a ban on smoking indoors.

In this context, it was decided to apply anti-smoking law immediately and strictly for all public buildings, including the Parliament, ministries, hospitals, schools and public services in general.

At the same time, it was decided to launch a broad campaign to inform and raise citizens’ awareness, in view of the universal application of the law in the coming months.
