General (ret.) Taxiarchis Sardellis joins HALC as Nonresident Senior Fellow for Defense and Security Policy

July 30, 2019 (Athens) — The Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) announced the appointment of General (ret.) Taxiarchis Sardellis as Nonresident Senior Fellow for Defense and Security Policy.
General Sardellis will lead HALC’s efforts on military affairs and security policy. In this capacity, he will brief US policy makers and thought leaders as well as serve as a liaison for HALC in Greece.
“At a time when Greece’s security role is becoming ever more prominent, it is critical that the Hellenic advocacy community and the diaspora rely on experts like General Taxiarchis Sardellis. His ability to navigate the Greek, American and NATO security establishments is as good as it gets,” said HALC’s Executive Director, Endy Zemenides. “HALC is thrilled to welcome him on the team and look forward to his contributions to a new day in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
During General Sardellis’ 32-year military career, he served in Special Operations units, Army General Staff positions, the Greek Ministry of Defense as Director of International Relations, NATO and US Army HQ’s and the Greek Embassy in Washington DC. He holds a BA on Military Science and Operational Studies from the Greek Military Academy, a Post Graduate Diploma on Defense Studies from the Greek Army Supreme College and an MA on Strategic and Diplomatic Studies form the NATO Defense College in Rome. He has graduated from the US Army Chemical Warfare Officer Program — Ft. McClellan, Alabama, the US Army Infantry Advanced Officer School — Ft. Benning, Georgia and he has served as the first Greek Liaison Officer to US Army HQ TRADOC.
He has been awarded several awards and distinctions by the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Greek Minister of Defense, the Belgian Army Parachutist Badge, the NATO non-article 5 Operations Medal, awarded by HE the Secretary General of NATO and the U.S Army Meritorious Service Medal, awarded by the Secretary and Chief of U.S Army and the Legion of Merit awarded by the US Secretary of Defense.
