Τhe picturesque Canal d’Amour or ‘Channel of Love’ is known througout Europe and worldwide as the beach for true lovers that want to stay together for all time.

One of the most beautiful and famous beaches on the island of Corfu is located in the north of the island near Sidari, about 32 kilometres for the main town and on the westernmost tip of the island’s northern shore, it is remarkable for its sculpted white sandstone rocks that rise up on either side, forming a natural canal.

  • According to local legend, couples who swim the length of the canal will always stay in love and those that swim to its furthest tip will find the love of their life. Many visitors, however, prefer to simply toss a coin into its waters and make a wish for true love.

A unique spot favoured by tourists, celebrities and quite a few film crews, according to the locals, the Canal d’Amour is also widely known for its detoxifying and healing properties, attributed to rich deposits of clay that form in the sea as the rocks are weathered by the wind and salt water to create small lagoons and beautiful caves.

  • Many visitors choose to sit on these rocks with handfuls of clay and spread it on their body and hair for a natural mud bath.
  • The area is well known since ancient times, with traces of a Neolithic settlement and earlier Mesolithic settlements found in excavations in Sidari.

The beach, popular since the 1960s, each year receives a Blue Flag and is also a good choice for diving and water sports.
