The Greek Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) overturned a ruling blocking convincted November 17 terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas from getting another furlough from jail.

  • A section of the Supreme Court said that even prisoners sentenced to multiple life sentences have the right to get regular furloughs.
  • The Misdemeanours Council of Volos, where Koufodinas is serving his sentence, originally ruled that the terrorist could not receive any more exit passes from jail. While Koufodinas went on hunger strike in protest, Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou filed an injunction arguing that he fulfilled all conditions for one.

Following the Supreme Court ruling, the case file will return to Volos’ Council, which will have a different composition than last time and which will give the final word whether the terrorist fulfills both formal and substantive conditions for a furlough of a few days.
