The labour ministry’s bill introducing 120-installment settlement schemes for debts to the public sector, as well as the amendments for the so-called “13th pension” and VAT rate cuts for food, catering services and energy were passed by the Greek parliament on Wednesday, with an overwhelming majority in favour.

  • Votes in favour of the bill in principles were cast by ruling SYRIZA, main opposition New Democracy, Democratic Alliance, Golden Dawn and Potami. The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Centrists’ Union abstained, casting a vote of ‘present’.

The amendments on VAT and the extra pension were supported by SYRIZA, ND, Democratic Alliance, Golden Dawn, Potami and the Centrists’ Union, with KKE abstaining.
