Primary residence not at risk for majority of Greek households, Tzanakopoulos says

“The draft law on primary residence protection will be tabled either late on Friday night or early next week in parliament,” State Minister and government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said to TV Alpha on Friday, adding that the first home is not at risk for the great majority of Greek households.

“There is great progress in the negotiations with the European Commission and the European Central Bank. The government is open to discussing partial reservations or questions but it is also determined not to change the main agreement with the Hellenic Bank Association. The aim of the Greek government is for primary residence protection to be legislated and concluded in the best possible way at the Eurogroup, which I estimate will give the green light for the return of the profits of the Greek bonds from the European central banks,” said Tzanakopoulos.

Asked if there will be dialogue with Turkey on the EEZ with Greece, Tzanakopulos said: “We discuss all bilateral issues with Turkey on the basis of international law and the law of the sea. We discuss everything provided that the discussion does not include exercising sovereign rights that can be exercised unilaterally.”

He condemned that attack on Friday against the Russian Consulate, adding that there is not a generalised terrorism problem in Greece or phenomena similar to those seen in other European countries but “we must always remain vigilant”.
