Developments in Elefsina and Skaramangas shipyards after Neorio, says Alt. Econ Min

Growth driver and major promotion for the Greek economy can become the Greek shipbuilding industry and “in a very short period we will see the completion of a huge change and the revival of the shipping industry” said Alternate Economy Minister Stergios Pitsiorlas in his statements to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

Speaking to journalist Giorgos Kouvaras from the island of Syros at the inauguration of the floating dock “Violando-Goulandri” at Neorio shipyards, Pitsiorlas said that after the spectacular revival of Neorio there will be developments in the shipyards of Elefsina and Skaramangas” confirming the investment interest in Attica’s major shipyards.

At the same time, president and managing director of ONEX, the investor in Neorio, Panos Xenokostas reaffirmed in his statements to ANA that ONEX is interested to invest in Elefsina and Skaramangas. “What started here (in Neorio) is only a spark, it may extend to the other Greek shipyards when we decide to look the truth in the eye and leave aside the inertia of the past” said Xenokostas.

On when the transfer of Neorio shipyards to ONEX will complete, Xenokostas said “there are still some bureaucracy problems; unfortunately this is synonymous with Greece in any business activity. I believe that everything is a matter of will and the will exists, we see it and we ask for the acceleration of the procedure.
