Independent MPs Danellis and Mavrotas join committee discussing Prespes Agreement

Independent members of parliament, Spiros Danellis and George Mavrotas, were drawn by lot to be part of the Parliament’s Standing Committee for National Defense and Foreign Affairs which will hold a two-day debate on the Prespes Agreement, it was announced on Monday.

The selection of Danellis and Mavrotas, both of whom have stated they will vote in favour of the agreement, raises to three the total number of independent MPs in the committee, together with MP Dimitris Kammenos who was already a member.

Earlier in the day, Parliament President Nikos Voutsis had attempted to appoint Danellis to the committee but following reactions from New Democracy’s parliamentary group the appointment was cancelled and it was decided that the two remaining members will be selected by lot.
