Zaev confident of Greek parliament’s support of Prespes Agreement: I also have faith in Kammenos

SKOPJE (ANA/N. Frangopoulos) – Zoran Zaev, prime minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, expressed confidence that parliament will support the amendments adopting terms of the Prespes Agreement and that the process will be completed by mid-January.

He noted that the amendments were the products of collaboration that included Albanian representatives and comprised “an honest approach to the adoption” of the Agreement.

Asked to comment on repeated comments by National Defence Minister Panos Kammenos and leader of the junior ruling coalition party that he would rather resign than vote for the Prespes Agreement, Zaev said that he had faith in Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the Greek opposition and the Greek people.

“I also have faith in Kammenos, who is a member of the cabinet,” Zaev said, calling on Greece to give a chance to the historic agreement because it will benefit both countries and peoples. The benefits, he said, will become obvious shortly after its adoption. Zaev added that the parliament plenary discussion has been set for January 9, and he expressed confidence that the amendments would be voted no more than ten days later.
