Unemployment in Greece drops to 18.3 pct in the third quarter of 2018 from 19 pct in Q2




Unemployment fell further to 18.3 pct in the third quarter of 2018, from 19 pct in the second quarter of 2018 and 20.2 pct in the third quarter of 2017, data released on Thursday showed.

In a Hellenic Statistical Service report (ELSTAT), the number of unemployed dropped to 871,756 or by 3.8 pct relative to the previous quarter and by 10.1 pct relative to the third quarter of the previous year. However, 626,000 people or 71.8 pc of all registered unemployed have been unemployed long term.

According to ELSTAT, the highest unemployment rates are noted in the following categories: women, people aged 15-19, the region of western Macedonia, and people with a grade-school education. Conversely, the highest employment rates are found among men, people aged 30-44, the Ionian Islands region, people who have completed secondary education, and foreign nationals
