PM Tsipras to point out the need for more social cohesion at European Council meeting

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will be in Brussels on Thursday and Friday to participate in the European Council meeting which will discuss the next EU Fiscal Framework for the period 2021-2027, the developments over Brexit, the reform of the eurozone and the migration.
According to government’s sources, Tsipras is going to point out that that EU’s budget should work as a tool of re-allocation in order that the best convergence and best possible social cohesion is achieved. The funding of new policies such as research and innovation, and the tackling of the migration crisis should not be applied against the traditional EU policies, the common agriculture policy and the political cohesion which constitute the main pillars of the European building.
On Brexit he will note that the UK withdrawal agreement is very sensitive and there is no room for re-negotiation with London.
He is going to support the integration of the eurozone with institutions that will be subjected to democratic accountability and the proposals for a strong eurozone budget with stabilising operation.
On the migration and refugee issue, Tsipras is expected to note that it is a European challenge and demands collective European solution based on co-responsibility and solidarity.
