Greek Migrants Forum to present map of migrant communities in Greece at this time

The Greek Migrants Forum has mapped and recorded the migrant communities active in Greece at this time.

According to the results, there are over 50 migrant communities that have formed some kind of association or group that currently exist in Greece, of which 40 are Forum members.

Many of these groups concern migrants from Africa (15), nine are for migrants from the Middle East and seven from eastern Europe.

“The integration and collective action of the migrants has been the forum’s mission and fundamental aim in the last 15 years. We believe that integration is achieved when the migrants themselves feel that they are an inseparable part and active member of society,” said the president of the Forum Ahmed Moawia to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Tuesday.

The migrant communities constitute the migrant’s first contact with the reception country and must intervene at all stages of integration. So, the community is a pillar of this process.

The interventions for the integration of migrants concern issues ranging from education, legal issues, finding jobs, and support in cases of gender or domestic violence to fighting trafficking.

The results of its findings will be presented on Tuesday at a political debate organised by the Forum at the cultural centre “Melina” in Athens on Tuesday, December 18 which is International Migrants Day.
