Turkey’s actions are proof of its weakness, says alternate FM Giorgos Katrougalos

“Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ visit to Istanbul will take place when circumstances will make it effective, that is, if the conditions exist to further promote Greek-Turkish relations,” Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos said on Thursday in Parliament.

Katrougalos responded to a question by main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos about increased Turkish provocation in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Referring to the tension in the Aegean Sea, Katrougalos he underlined that the likelihood of any accident must be avoided. He also stressed that Turkey’s “erratic” actions are related to the upgrading of Greece’s international position and the EU response to Turkish tactics in the Aegean and its resulting isolation, adding that Turkey’s reactions are proof of its weakness.
