The government remains optimistic over a positive outcome on pensions, says Dimitris Tzanakopoulos

Government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, in an interview with Real FM on Tuesday, expressed optimism that the issue of pensions will soon be concluded in a positive way.
If European institutions accept the Greek government scenario of no pension cuts, he added, this will signify an abolition of the measure and not its temporary suspension.
“We are waiting for the European Commission’s recommendation on the Greek budget. I am optimistic that the Commission will accept the Greek government’s position and figures showing that this measure is unnecessary for achieving a 3.5 pct [of GDP] surplus,” he said.
Regarding Turkey’s reactions to the exploration for fossil fuels in the Cypriot EEZ, Tzanakopoulos stressed that the Greek government is closely monitoring the situation and remains on alert, as does the Republic of Cyprus.
“We expect calm and restraint from the Turkish authorities. We expect them to choose the path of diplomatic resolution of what they consider differences and avoid new flare-ups. All European countries should stand by the Republic of Cyprus,” noted Tzanakopoulos.
