Greece wants Serbia to become a member of the European Union, ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis says

Νew Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday met with Serb President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.
Mitsotakis expressed his support for Serbia’s European course, underlining that Greece want Serbia to become a member-state of the EU. “The road is long and difficult and binds the country to implementing a series of bold reforms. This, however, will benefit both the EU and stability in the Balkans,” stated Mitsotakis, adding that Greece is Serbia’s traditional and steadfast friend.

“Greece was a pioneering and important investor in Serbia at a time when other countries hesitated to invest. The last 10 years have been difficult for Greece but I believe that we are leaving the crisis behind us and, if the Greeks trust ND in the next general elections, then the economy can recover and this will be very important for the strengthening of our relations and the infrastructure works that will connect Greece with Serbia and Europe,” said Mitsotakis.

He congratulated Vucic for his huge efforts to reform Serbia’s economy and their results. “The economic reforms have had an impact for the great majority of the citizens. The reduction of unemployment and debt, the increase of available income are significant achievements and are the best proof that the policies supported by the European Peoples Party are the right policies for the country,” he said.

Mitsotakis clarified that his position on Kosovo will not change. “We support dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which should be carried out without unilateral actions that electrify the climate”.

After the meeting, Mitsotakis toured works to improve Belgrade’s riverside and afterwards he visited Castle Nebojsa where Rigas Feraios was strangled in 1798.
