Papadimoulis comments Dijsselbloem blog on pension cuts: “The numbers are on Greece’s side”

“The numbers are on our side,” European Parliament Vice President and SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis said in a tweet on Monday, citing an admission by the former head of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem that “the Greeks have a case” when they say the pension cuts are a “non-structural” measure.
“Even Dijsselbloem admits, with some delay, that we are right about not cutting pensions. One more positive signal because, quite simply, the numbers are on our side,” Papadimoulis said in his tweet, linked to a Greek press article about an entry in Dijsselbloem’s blog entitled “Whose pension needs attention?” published on Sunday.

“I think the Greeks have a case, pointing out that this measure has no structural impact on the pension system. Over the long run it doesn’t bring much savings as the pensioners will naturally exit the system,” the former Eurogroup president said in his blog, while noting that the Eurogroup “may find there is scope for flexibility given the results in Greece so far”.
