Greece-FYROM relations form a stabilising axis for the Balkans, says foreign minister Nikos Kotzias

There can be no policy that is better for the future of the Balkans than cooperation between Greece and FYROM, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said in an interview with the public broadcaster ERT late on Monday. He noted that through this cooperation, “we will stabilise this country (FYROM), which we don’t want to see destroyed”.

In statements aired late Monday, one day after the referendum in FYROM, the Greek foreign minister said that Greek-FYROM relations are an axis that stabilises the Balkans.

Kotzias explained that the referendum in Skopje was neither a condition nor a prerequisite nor yet a legal condition for the implementation of Prespes agreement, adding that ‘yes’ vote represented an absolute majority of the actual number of voters.

Kotzias said that the procedure for the review of FYROM’s constitution will be sent to the country’s parliament within the next 15 days and possibly even the start of next week.
