Communist party blasts Kammenos: The ruling coalition is turning Greece into a USA-NATO camp

“Greece’s tranformation, from Alexandroupolis to Crete and from Larissa to Karpathos, into a US-NATO military camp, as presented by Defence Minister Panos Kammenos today in the role of real estate agent for military bases, using arguments taken from the time of the Marshall plan and Truman doctrine, is the political choice of the entire ruling coalition as a whole,” the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) said in an announcement on Monday.
The announcement said it was referring to the defence minister’s “latest statements about NATO bases in Greece and the alleged internal controversy within the government.”
“KKE calls for mass participation of the people in the rallies against the government’s plans to expand and create new US-NATO bases. No workers, no young people or progressive person can tolerate Greece’s conversion into a springboard for war and military operations,” the announcement concluded.
