The Greek public-sector staff union federation ADEDY has declared a 24-hour strike on Wednesday, November 14. The decision was taken during ADEDY’s annual nationwide meeting held on October 14 and 15 in the city of Ioannina.
In an announcement, ADEDY listed its demands, which include: increases to salaries and pensions; restoration of the 13th and 14th salaries and gradual restoration of all pensions; a tax-free income allowance of 12,000 euros a year; abolition of the real estate property tax (ENFIA) and reduction of VAT to 15 pct. The union additionally called for the hiring of permanent staff in the public sector, no privatisation of state organisations, an increase of social spending on health, education, social security, insurance and environment and, finally, the abolition of all memorandum laws.
