UN’s Guterres sees FYROM name agreement as being “very positive”: We hope that will ratified

Ahead of the FYROM referendum on September 30, U.N. Secretary-general Antonio Guterres described on Thursday the name agreement as being “very positive”.

“We consider the agreement between the two governments to be a very positive one. The UN has been involved for decades in trying to help the two parties come to this agreement. And we hope that both Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia … in both countries the agreement will be ratified. Because that will allow us … it will be easier for us to describe the relations between the two countries,” he told journalists.

In regards to Cyprus, he said that United Nations special envoy to Cyprus Jane Holl Lute is still conducting some additional consultations and that he is waiting for her report “‘to see the way forward.”
