A 24-hour strike affecting all ferries in Greece, called by the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO), is taking place on Monday after PNO rejected the terms proposed by passenger ferries owners at a meeting on Friday.
The Association of Passenger Ferry Businesses (SEEN) proposed a 1 pct raise as of September 1 and another 1 pct raise on June 1, 2019.
PNO rejected the proposals and proposed a 5 pct salary increase while warning that strike action will escalate unless an acceptable agreement is reached.
“Society is well aware that employers bear sole responsibility for this situation, by insisting on their barren bargaining positions and by refusing to grant a substantial increase to seamen’s salaries for eight consecutive years, thus literally forcing us to decide on strike action with a prospect of escalating this further,” PNO said in a statement.
