Greece’s fiscal space will exceed 3.5 percent of GDP target, says finance minister Tsakalotos

Meeting his German counterpart Olaf Schulz and European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici in Berlin on Wednesday, Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos expressed the Greek government’s position that the “fiscal space” achieved by Greece will exceed the 3.5 percent GDP target for 2019 and for the following years, when its exact size was still being discussed with the institutions.

He also said that it would be good for a debate to begin on how this fiscal space could be best used, not just in 2019 but in all the years up to 2022.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the PES Ecofin Ministerial Network meeting.
