“The end of the memoranda era brings new opportunity for Greece” says Yannis Dragasakis

“The end of the memorandum is an opportunity for the country. We can plan our future with increased freedom by taking advantage of the fact that the economy is recovering and what we should discuss in the parliament and in society is how to make use it,” government vice president Yiannis Dragasakis said late on Thursday at an open political event of SYRIZA.

“As long as the economy strengthens and is on the brink of recovery, we must not forget that the exit from the crisis means profound changes, not austerity changes, but changes that will reduce inequalities,” he said.

Dragasakis noted that Greece can return to the markets and avoid the memoranda. We have at least 15 years ahead of us with manageable debt servicing costs, he said adding that Greece has secured cash reserves for the next four years when we have to pay 58 billion euros as a state. “Therefore, we are secured. If we return to the markets we will use the money to purchase the debt to IMF,” he noted.
