President Prokopis Pavlopoulos thanks Pierre Moscovici for his support of Greece, greets new era

The Greek people cannot pay for mistakes that they are not their own, Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Tuesday in a meeting with EU Commissioner Pierre Moscovici.

Pavlopoulos thanked Moscovici for his contribution and support to Greece, adding that Greece is entering the phase of the implementation of another, different programme, a programme like those in Portugal and Cyprus after the memorandum.

He also expressed his confidence that Greece will once again have his support in this course, which is “much easier and much more promising, as we all know.”

On his part, Moscovici said that the era of the memoranda for Greece is over.

As of June 21, he said, Greece has been on a new course with new conditions and prospects.

As he said, what we all experienced was tragic; it was risky for the eurozone and very difficult for the Greeks adding “I know what the Greek people have suffered.”

At the same time, he stressed that Greece stands again on its feet. The partners will stand by Greece, but it will be free and autonomous. They will be on the side of each other, within the framework of solidarity and responsibility, he noted.

Moscovici also stated that the content of the new programme is radically different compared with all the previous ones.
