Greek and FYROM agreement is great diplomatic success, Austrian Ambassador says

“Greece will soon stand on its own feet. It has great potential. If the investors, who are already here, experience a positive economic climate, this will be the best advertisement for making further investments. I am sure that Greece will take advantage of its opportunities in the best possible way,” Austrian Ambassador to Greece Andrea Ikic-Bohm said on Saturday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

She also underlined that the Greek-FYROM agreement on the name issue is a great diplomatic success adding that it is an encouraging step for the wider region and especially in periods of significant challenges, it is a positive message for all Europe.

Referring to the priorities of the Austrian presidency in the European Council, she said: “Austria wishes to contribute to finding common solutions to the challenges the European Union is facing. No country can deal with these challenges on its own. The crises of the last years have hurt the citizens’ confidence in the European Union. Therefore, the message of the Austrian presidency is a Europe that protects, especially in the three priority sectors (security and the fight against undocumented migration, safeguarding prosperity and competitiveness through digitization and stability in countries of the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe).

“Due to its geographical location, this area is of particular interest to both Greece and Austria, and its future must therefore be in the EU,” she stressed.
