Information secretary visit to Shanghai raises interst for investment in Greek audiovisual sector




The presentation of Greece’s new institutional instruments for developing the audiovisual sector and the cultural and creative industries was at the heart of the visit carried out by General Secretary for Information and Communication Lefteris Kretsos to Shanghai on June 16-18, in the framework of the oldest and largest Film and Cinema Festival of China, and one of the largest in Asia.

Kretsos, at the invitation of the Shanghai Festival, attended the official opening ceremony of the Festival and presented to more than 100 Chinese producers the recent investment incentive to produce audiovisual works in Greece (cash rebate 25 pct, v. 4487/2017 ) and answered their questions.

During the Greek presentation, many Chinese companies and executives expressed their interest in the production of audiovisual works in Greece. Indeed, Chinese companies have agreed to implement four films in Grece in the next two years. Miao Xiaotian, president of the China Film Co-production Corporation, and Yu Zhiqing, president of the Shanghai Broadcasting Film & Television Producers Association, attended the Greek presentation, while the event was supported by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT), the China Film Bureau as well as the Beijing SARFT.

Kretsos was a keynote speaker at a Shanghai Broadcasting & Television Producers Association event, in the presence of the heads of the Culture, Information and Broadcasting Authority of Shanghai, as well as 200 companies of the sector. At the end of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the General Secretariat for Information and Communication and the Shanghai Producers Association on mutual assistance in the promotion of audiovisual content producers.

Kretsos visited China’s largest international exhibition of audiovisual production equipment, the Shanghai International Culture Device Expo, and was guided by its chairman while visiting China’s oldest cinema production organization, the Shanghai Film Group, the Cinema Museum China, and had a meeting with the president of the organization.
