Speeding car crashes into bus stop in Athens suburb, kills one and injures three more people




A 50-year-old man died and three people were injured after a car crashed into a bus stop on Thursday at 08:20, in the Athens district of Metamorphosi.

Among those injured was a young girl, who was riding in the car driven by her 40-year-old father, the driver of the vehicle and an 80-year-old man waiting at the bus stop, together with the man that died.

The two injured men were rushed to KAT hospital in Kifissia in an ambulance and the nine-year-old girl was taken to Aglaia Kyriakou children’s hospital in Athens.

According to the Nea Ionia traffic police, who are conducting an inquiry, no other car appears to be involved in the accident, during which the car veered off course at speed and slammed into the bus stop. The driver was described as seriously injured, while based on the evidence found so far, the young girl was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.
