President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopoulos meets with PACE President Michele Nicoletti

The two officials underlined the need to support the social state in Europe, as well the need for solidarity in addressing the migration issue.

He noted that “if they do not meet their obligations in such a major issue of solidarity that proves Europe’s humanism then there are penalties and these penalties should be applied”.

On his part, Nicoletti thanked Pavlopoulos for the meeting and praised Greece’s contribution in the Council of Europe, as well as in the region of the Mediterranean and the many challenges and difficulties it faces, such as issues of migration and the various sources of tension.

Moroever, he expressed the Council’s gratitude for Greece’s solidarity with weaker groups and agreed with Pavlopoulos on the need to support the social state and social rights.
