The Los Angeles Greek Film Festival returns to Hollywood this year from June 6 to 10, and recently announced its opening and closing movies.

The film festival will open with “Smuggling Hendrix” on June 6 at 7 PM, hosted at the Egyptian Theatre. A Cypriot production directed by Marios Piperides, the movie tells the story of a fading musician, Yanni, who wants to leave the crisis in Cyprus in search of better opportunities. He is forced to delay his plans when his dog Jimi runs into the occupied side of Cyprus, and he must cross the UN buffer zone to search for him.

Opening night of LAGFF will also include a reception in the courtyard of the Egyptian Theatre, and a live performance by singer Ariana Savalas.

“Perfect Strangers”, a 2016 Greek movie, will close out the film festival on June 10 at 6 PM, again at the Egyptian Theatre.

Directed by Thodoris Atheridis, the movie centers on a dinner where seven friends decide to play an interesting game. They must share every text and call they receive with the entire group, forcing complete transparency and making a lot of hidden truths emerge into the light.

The closing night movie will be followed by a reception and the Orpheus Awards ceremony, where the best films and performances will be awarded. This year’s festival marks the 12th year of the LAGFF in Hollywood.
