FM Kotzias begins briefing party leaders on FYROM name issue

Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias began a round of meetings on Monday with the leaders of opposition political parties in order to brief them on the latest developments regarding the issue of FYROM’s name.

On Monday he met with general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoumbas, at the party’s headquarters in Perissos. In the afternoon, he met with the head of the Potami party, Stavros Theodorakis.

Koutsoumbas: Concern over developments
According to a KKE announcement, “the minister briefed Koutsoumbas on the latest developments following the Greek government’s talks with the leadership of FYROM and Albania, as well as on the recent developments regarding Greek-Turkish relations and Cyprus’ issue.”
On his part, Koutsoumbas outlined the party’s positions to the minister and expressed his concerns over the dangerous developments in the Balkans, as well as in the wider region, due to increasing competition between the interests of imperialist powers and the powerful capitalist countries”.

Theodorakis: Next few weeks decisive
Kotzias briefed later on Monday the head of the Potami party, Stavros Theodorakis, on the FYROM name issue.
Following the meeting, that lasted 90 minutes, Theodorakis said he was analytically briefed and that “the next few weeks will be decisive” in whether a solution to the problem is found.
