Tzanakopoulos: PM to propose parliamentary investigation for Novartis case

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to propose an ad hoc parliamentary preliminary investigation committee to examine the involvement of all political figures mentioned in the ongoing Novartis investigation when SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group meets on Monday, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Friday during a press briefing.

He stressed that “respect for the principles of the rule of law cannot be a la carte,” adding that all political parties must show responsibility and “immediately stop the insults to justice, which are a direct interference in its work and an absolute and explicit challenge of its credibility and independence.”

Regarding the seven-year bond, he said: “Investors’ interest in the bond was particularly high, as evidenced by the fact that the offers were more than double the target originally set by the Greek side.”

Tzanakopoulos stressed that European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici has made it even clearer that the exit from the memoranda is certain, adding that there are no plans for a new programme.
