Tsipras tells Yildirim Imia incident ‘directly undermines Greek-Turkish relations’

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Tuesday that incidents like the one in the region of Imia on Monday “directly undermine Greek-Turkish relations.”

“The prime minister noted rigorously to his Turkish counterpart that incidents like those in the region of Imia yesterday directly undermine Turkish-Greek and EU-Turkish relations and violate international law,” Tsipras’ general secretariat said.

“H stressed the need to immediately put an end to the growing provocative Turkish violations of the Greek islands’ territorial waters and the airspace in the Aegean and to reduce tension. Finally, it was agreed to intensify talks on Confidence Building Measures,” it added.

According to information, Yildirim argued that Monday?s incident was not the result of a deliberate action. The two PMs also discussed the situation in Cyprus? EEZ.
