Tsipras praises captain of rammed coast guard vessel for his bravery and cool-headedness

“You kept calm and keeping calm is bravery,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Thursday to the captain of the coast guard Offshore Patrol Boat (OPV) “Gavdos” that was rammed by a Turkish patrol boat near the Imia islets earlier this week.

During his visit to the shipping ministry, Tsipras met and talked with the crew of the ‘Gavdos,’ whom he congratulated on their presence of mind under pressure.

He also met with members of a special unit for underwater missions that took part in operations fighting organised crime and other coast guard officers.

Tsipras then held a meeting with the leadership of the Coast Guard, including its civilian supervisors, and afterwards delivered a speech to coast guard personnel.
