The integration of Western Balkans must be a catalyst for solution, ND’s Koumoutsakos says

“The integration process of the Western Balkan countries must proceed. The stabilisation of the region is also in Greece’s interest,” main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow Foreign Minister George Koumoutsakos said on Saturday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

However, he made clear that “the European integration must become a catalyst for a solution, and not for perpetuation of problems.”

Asked if ND estimates that “now is the time for a solution to the issue with FYROM or should be postponed for later,” Koumoutsakos argued that “we could contribute to an effort that would, from start to finish, be a national one.”

Referring to his recent meeting with UN special envoy Matthew Nimetz, he said that he conveyed ND’s “anxiety about the issue” and made it clear that “the solution should be unified and indivisible.”
