Pavlopoulos: ‘We achieve great things only when we are united’




“We achieve great things only when we are united in the face of difficult times and challenges,” Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Thursday, during his address to the mayor of Gortynia, Ioannis Giannopoulos, at a ceremony for his proclaimation as an honorary citizen of Gortynia.

“Conversely, we experienced out greatest and even national disasters when we were divided,” he added. “So let us design our future steps in the European and wider international environment of politics, economics and culture with reason, vision and consistency. And then, it is certain that we will succeed,” he underlined.

Pavlopoulos said that despite the recent economic crisis, Greece will overcome all the obstacles: “Having a great historical presence and spiritual continuity in this place of the Balkans and the Mediterranean, Greece is determined to create a better future for generations to come.”

Referring to Greece’s role in the European Union, he underlined: “Greece, as an integral member of the EU, and indeed of its inner core, the eurozone, meets al the requirements needed to seek a better a future for the country and its people.”

In addition, Pavlopoulos noted that “Greece can play a leading role in the European Union, contributing with consistency and prudence to the efforts for European integration.”
