Government trying to solve the farmers’ problems, Apostolou says

The government is aware of the problems faced by farmers and is doing its best to solve them, Rural Development and Food Minister Evangelos Apostolou said on Thursday, in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency’s radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.

Apostolou said that there “are margins for an understanding that is based on common sense, which says that Greece has memorandum commitments and is just now exiting the tunnel of the crisis”. He also stressed the importance of the agricultural sector as that the country exited the crisis.

The minister made the statements in Thessaloniki, where he will be inaugurating the 27th international fair “Agrotica” on Thursday evening

Regarding the farmers’ protest held in the city, he said that the union organising the rally had not responded to an invitation for a meeting last Wednesday, in order to discuss farmers’ problems.
