Dragasakis: Greek crisis was a crisis of the productive model followed

The economic crisis facing Greece is not just a crisis of imbalances, but a crisis of the productive model followed all those years and of the power system that supported it, government Vice-President Yiannis Dragasakis said at the 3rd Regional Development Conference in Crete on Wednesday.

“The crisis we are experiencing is not just a matter of imbalances, nor was it just a financial crisis. It was a crisis of the productive model and the power system that supported it, a clientelistic, state-financed, and largely ‘parasitic capitalism’, as even some of those who nurtured it are shyly recognizing today,” he said.

“The answer to this crisis cannot be an outdated neoliberalism, the unrestrained privatizations, the selective satisfaction of interests, market responses, and growth without plans and social commitments,” he continued.

Dragasakis said that by going through the crisis, society now recognizes the need for an integrated plan setting out objectives and priorities to meet economic and social needs and highlighting the means and policies by which these goals can be realized.
