Tsakalotos: Supporting pensioners is in line with bailout; Greece will explain its position

The measures to support low-income pensioners announced by the government last week are within the framework of the bailout agreement signed with Greece’s creditors, Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos told journalists on Wednesday.
He was responding to questions about ESM’s decision to put on hold the implementation of debt relief measures.
“We will explain to anyone who asks us that the support for pensioners announced by the government is within the framework of the memorandum and we believe that when we provide the necessary explanations, they will understand,” he said, adding these benefits will be voted tomorrow in parliament with a roll call vote.
On Thursday, Tsakalotos and Labour Minister Efi Achtsioglou will visit Berlin where they will hold a joint press conference.
