Coup in Turkey: Erdogan, the biggest follower of Fetullah Gulen

A state of emergency has been declared in Turkey, but the same panic has overtaken us here [in the part of Cyprus occupied by Turkey]. A mopping-up operation has begun, they say.
We are living in very dark days, very dark indeed. Days in which fear and flattery have reached their apogee. A state of emergency has been declared in Turkey, but the same panic has overtaken us here. An item just reached me, right before I started writing this column, and it is the following: a mopping-up operation has begun, they say, within the ranks of the [Turkish] “peace-keeping” army. They are clearing the ranks of all followers of Fetullah Gulen.
They came to protect the peace in Cyprus, they say, but now they are being returned to Turkey as “terrorists”. What an irony this is! In our universities there is intense activity since the morning. Everyone has been co-opted to help. Wherever there is a trace of Fetullah Gulen, wherever there is a book or an article by him, it is being cleaned-up [extinguished]! We are living in days of fear! Our feet have caught fire as of some time ago. There is a mopping-up operation before the invasion [of the security forces], before the arrest! I liked very much the decision of our government [of the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, TRNC, recognized only by Turkey and declared illegal by a UN Security Council Resolution].
And I laughed, at least I did, as much as I laugh with the movies of Charlie Chaplin. They placed the “Terrorist Organization Fet” of Fetullah Gulen, in the list of terrorist organizations. Well done boys! If the wind blows hard from the north [Turkey], you will just bend so much, just like a reed! Our reeds are very good. Are there any reeds in the world like these ones? How easily they bend and stoop down, God bless them. Then they become whistles. And then big lions in the front page titles of our newspapers. What did they do? They outlawed the Terrorist Organization Fet, they say! More power to them! Just tell me, however, weren’t you in the same bed with Fet until yesterday? Was it perhaps my grandmother that was praising Fet so effusively? Was it not Ferdi Sambit Soyer, the man who even served as prime minister in this community, who offered us a particular piece of advice? Did he not tell us all that we must read the writings of Fet, no matter what? What happened now? What is going on? Why are they burning [the works of] Fet?
Years ago in Turkey they were arresting all the military who were opposed to Fet. Those involved in [operation] Ergenegon. In [operation] Sledgehammer. All that was fake. The only reason for those arrests was the resistance of these military people to Fet. Generals, colonels, majors and captains were all thrown in jail! Now, on the contrary, they lock up in jail all those who are followers of Fet! Yesterday those who were against Fet. And today those who are in favor of Fet. Yesterday Fet was our savior. Today he is a terrorist! How easily do the people swallow all this. [The late] Aziz Nesin has been vindicated once more. Ninety percent of the people are fools. Erdogan made laughing stock out of the armed forces. If he arrests and sends back to Turkey 20,000 of the 40,000 armed forces that are here, that is also a gain for us. Let us just see how many “terrorists” Turkish soldiers are there, [here] among us! I saw on television how much suffering the arrested Turkish Army officers who served in Cyprus must have endured. I felt sorry for them. Yet, how terrifying and heroic they appeared when they were in our midst!
We are living in dark days, very dark days indeed. Fear and flattery have taken root everywhere. They [the “authorities” of the so-called TRNC] are opposed to the coup, they say. Yet, they applauded those who staged the coup on the 27th of May [1960], on the 12th of March [1971], on the 12th of September [1980]. If you achieved your aim, then you are a hero. If you did not achieve your aim, then you are a traitor! They have forgotten that this fantom of a state called TRNC is itself the product of a coup [in 1983, when Turkey was ruled by the military dictatorship of General Kenan Evren]. They raised to the status of God a despicable person such as Kenan Evren! They adored him for many years. Just like they now adore Erdogan…..
Our government has included the “Terrorist Organization Fet” in the list of terrorists? Why, the first person that should be arrested, gentlemen, is Regep Tagip Erdogan himself. Because he has been the biggest follower of Fet. He is the one who placed this monkey called Fet on the people’s backs. Can’t you see, in just a few days he managed to arrest thousands of Fet’s followers. As if he had placed them there with his own hand, is that not so? He knows the place and the duty of every single one [of those arrested]. Because he placed them there himself. However, neither Tagip or Fet know [this]: that they kill the shas [tyrannical rulers].
